Add trend line to chart

When I try to add a trend line, and click on the Chart menu, the "Add Trend Line" is grayed out? How can I add a trend line, or get the Chart menu changed so the "Add Trend Line" option operates?

Yes, I've highlighted the data series, but when I click on the 'Chart' menu, the "Add Trend Line" option is grayed out. Now what?

To avoid a misunderstanding: Select the data series by clicking once on one
of the data points in the chart.

Also, be sure you're using an appropriate chart type. From Excel Help: "A
trendline or moving average can be added to any data series in an unstacked,
2-D, area, bar, column, line, stock, xy (scatter), or bubble chart. Note A
trendline cannot be added to data series in a stacked, 3-D, radar, pie,
surface, or doughnut chart."

I've tried to get a trend line created with other sets of data, and with xy scatter charts, and get the same result ("Add Trend Line" is grayed out in the "Chart" menu.

My Excel version is 12.1.3 (080930) with the 12.1.4 update; my Mac OS X is 10.5.5.

Hmm... I'm able to add trend lines to line charts (but not stacked line
charts - are you using that style by any chance)?

Does this workaround work for you: Switch to an X-Y scatter chart. Add
the trend-line. Switch back to the line chart.
