Add up all the values in one column on a form

In an event handler, how do I add up the value of a column for all the rows
in a (filtered) form?

Add up a column ... isn't that rather ... spreadsheetly? In a
well-normalized relational database table, it might not be so common to add
all the values in a field/column for a table. And by the way, the data is
in the table, not in the form.

If you need to get the sum of all the values in a particular column (e.g.,
how much did we take in $$ this month?), use a Totals query and use Sum.

Good luck!
