Add Windows Live Hotmail Account to Outlook 2003

Hi,

I can access my Windows Live Hotmail account through Internet Explorer.

I've followed the help instructions to add my account (as POP3) to Outlook.

I cannot access hotmail though through Outlook, it continually prompts me
for my password.

If I then select cancel I receive the following message:

Task 'Hotmail - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC92) : 'Your e-mail server
rejected your login. Verify your user name and password in your account
properties. Under Tools, click E-mail accounts. The server responded: -ERR
mailbox for (e-mail address removed) is not available'

Thanks
Nick

Can you clarify please? There are specific instructions under help which tell
you how to add Hotmail as a POP3 account. Here's the note:

-------------------------
Add your e-mail account to Microsoft Outlook
If you have a Windows Live Hotmail Plus subscription, you can use a POP3
(POP3, or Post Office Protocol 3, is a protocol that's used to retrieve
e-mail from a mail server.) server to add your Windows Live Hotmail account
to Microsoft Outlook and access messages there. If you download and install
Microsoft Office Outlook Connector, you can access your Windows Live Hotmail
e-mail messages and contacts in Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 or in Microsoft
Office Outlook 2003.

Use a POP3 server to add your Windows Live Hotmail account to Microsoft
Outlook
Open Outlook.
On the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts.
Click Add a new e-mail account, and then click Next.
Click POP3, and then click Next.
Under User Information, type your name and your Windows Live Hotmail e-mail
address.
Under Server Information, in the Incoming mail server (POP3) box, type
pop3.live.com. In the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) box, type smtp.live.com.
Under Logon Information, in the User Name box, type your full Windows Live
Hotmail e-mail address. In the Password box, type the password for your
Windows Live Hotmail e-mail address.
Clear the Remember password check box unless you're the only person with
access to the computer. Make sure that the Log on using Secure Password
Authentication (SPA) check box is not selected.
Click More settings.
On the Outgoing Server tab, make sure that the Use same settings as my
incoming mail server option is selected. If this option is not selected,
select the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication check box, and
then click the Use same settings as my incoming mail server option.
On the Advanced tab, under Server Port Numbers, in the Incoming server
(POP3) box, type 995. In the Outgoing server (SMTP) box, type 25. Under both
Incoming server (POP3) and Outgoing server (SMTP), select the This server
requires an encrypted connection (SSL) check boxes, and then click OK.
Click Next, and then click Finish.

So you have a paid subscription then? You can contact Hotmail support
directly to report your issue.

I would recommend using the Outlook Connector over POP3 access since the
Outlook Connector is a two-way sync and POP3 is retrieving only.

If you still want to go the POP3 route; if you have a virus scanner that
integrates with Outlook, disable this integration and try again.

Yes, I've got a paid subscription - but I'd like pure POP3 working. If I can
get POP3 working on Outlook then there's no reason why I can't add the POP3
account to the iPhone. Currently the connector software won't work on the
iPhone hence I don't have a solution for my mobile device.

Does it work when adding the account to your iPhone?
Also, how long have you subscribed to the service already? It could be that
your account still has to be migrated (which would explain the mailbox not
available error). Contact Hotmail support to verify your account.

Hi - did you get this working? I'd like to use POP3 too but get the
same error. The Outlook Connector is fine but canniot delete mail
from the server (or at least I haven't found out out to do it).
Cheers

Ok I've worked out what is going on. POP not supported -> use HTTP with
Windows Live Mail and O/L Connector with O/L.
Anybody know how to delete mail at the server with HTTP and Connector?
