Melissa

I am needing help. I have read all the other questions and looked up on the
help and have not gotten anywhere on how to add text to my gantt bars to
specify which product i will be using in each project. I have a feeling i am
needing step by step instructions. I have run into it telling me to put in a
formula!! Is there an easier way to add the text?? Please Help!! Thanks!

Hello Melissa,

First, thanks for trying to find the answer by searching. Where in
the project is the information about which product you are using?
Have you entered it into a text field (Text1, Text2, etc)?

If you need to type the information in, add a spare text field by
choosing Insert > Column in the menu. In the Column Definition
dialog box, click the Field list and select one of the Text fields.
In the Title area, enter in a Title that you want to display at the
top of the column. Click OK. You should now have an empty column
in the view. Enter the name(s) of the product that you want to show
next to the Gantt bars.

Then choose Format > Bar Styles in the menu. Select the "Task" bar
style definition in the list and then click the Text tab. at the
bottom of the dialog box. Click the "Right" area and from the list,
select the Text field that you added and typed into.

If you have formatted the Gantt chart to show Critical tasks, you'll
need to change that bar as well to show the Text field.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi Melissa,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

I've just gone through the steps that Julie described and my text shows up
as she said it would. I suggest you open a new project, enter one task and
then follow Julie's steps again. Let us know if that works OK.
