Addin to make Outlook reliably be used for 2 servers?

S

StargateFan

For months I tried working with Outlook to retrieve mail from my ISPs
server as well as from yahoo. Outlook wasn't reliable at all in
keeping the order of the servers correct and it would often mix up the
2 so that I'd find I'd be sending mail under my personal email address
which was awful. Is there an addin that will allow me to perhaps be
able to switch between how I send/receive at any given moment?

I've tried numerous other email clients to handle the small amount of
mail I need re keeping on top of the job situation where I need to
email my resume, etc., and keep in contact with all my agencies, but I
find that I seriously need Outlook's power for this as well even
though the actual mail volume is so little compared to what I use
Outlook for now. Its current use is vital. It handles everything and
Outlook works very, very well for most everything. I'd like to
somehow use it for more than I do now but I simply cannot have my
personal email account with my name on it for yahoo and the forums,
etc. And it is very unstable and unreliable in this regard.

Here's hoping someone can recommend some sort of addin that makes this
completely trustworthy for this.

Thanks.

You didn't mention what version of Outlook you're using. I use Outlook 2003
with at least five different accounts, some of which I use for sending only,
and find it handles them exactly as I want with no problems.

Perhaps that is where the problem lies. I use Outlook 2000 and it
never was reliable at all - my personal email address ended up on
forums where it had no business being even though the acct that should
have been used was first.

Also, was really hoping for something where I could "switch"
identities depending on whether I was sending to forums/lists, etc.,
for to my various employment agencies. But this would absolutely have
to work _reliably_. Is there any such animal??

Thanks.

As I said, Outlook 2003 handles this very nicely, replying by default on the
same account by which the message was received, with the option to send with
a different account if desired.

Okay, I understood that <g>, but I _don't_ have Outlook 2003. What
can I do with my Outlook 2000?

Thanks.)

Stay frustrated or upgrade. You may get better results with Internet Mail
Only mode than Corporate/Workgroup mode. See

<sigh> You know, this type of response really gets my goat. 1) I
have Win98SE. 2) 3 weeks without work so far, being between
contracts, means no dice re _any_ type of upgrade for Outlook never

So guess I'm just going to have to stay frustrated as there just isn't
any other way, is there? <wry grin>

I'm sorry you don't like the answer, but Outlook 97 through 2000 had major
limitations with handling multiple accounts. Microsoft changed the account
architecture in later versions to avoid those problems, but you can't expect
them to reinvent a five-year old product, can you? .

Did you take a look at the information I suggested on the different modes of
Outlook 2000? You may not be configured for the one that's more appropriate
for your usage.

Sorry for delay in responding, Sue. I was without work for 3 weeks
and then had a contract this week so that kind of took over <g>.

Nope, it wasn't the answer that bothered me, it was the assumption
that it would be just a simple matter to upgrade (with an additional
tone that hinted at too-bad, so-sad if I couldn't afford it. <g>).
It's a small minority of people in ngs that respond to posts with that
type of mindset that it's just so easy to get the latest version of
anything, and that's sad - so, yes, that does bother me some because
some of us are forced to work with what we have said:
limitations with handling multiple accounts. Microsoft changed the account
architecture in later versions to avoid those problems, but you can't expect

Not asking them to. The reason I posted in this group was because I
was hoping for some sort of add-on or workaround and quite a few times
these are even free! Even some that are not, I might be able to
afford one quicker than an OS along with an Office upgrade. That's
the type of thing I was hoping for.

Ah well ... I'll keep looking.

I did, but will review again.

Thanks much, Sue.
