Adding 1d of Work = 1d of Actual Work automatically

Good afternoon!

I'm using MS-Project 2003, SP2-a.

Using "Task Usage" view, when trying to add "Work" time at the right side of
the screen (Timescale), the equal value is AUTOMATICALLY added to balance the
Work that I just added.
In the left side of the screen, the "Work" column doesn't change, but the
"Actuals" do!

I'm using constraint type "Finish no later than" and task type "Fixed Work".
It's not happening for all the tasks.

Help please!

Why would you want to update the work value and not the "remaining work"
value?
