Adding a Column in a Table

E

Eric Tobias

Using Windows 2000 I created a form that consists of a
table with fields. The form is "protected". I want to be
able to take the sum of all the cells of a column when
those cells are filled in. The form is done as a
template. For some reason the column does not do the
addition. I follow the instructions carefully for doing
additions in tables but I do worry about that by
protecting the form it may not allow the addition to take
place, which I hope is not the case. Does anybody have
any suggestions? I tried everything that I could think of.
Thank you.

In the Form Field Options for the total field, have you specified that it is
a Calculation field? Have you checked "Calculate on exit" for each of the
form fields in the column?

If you enter the formula (i.e., '=sum(e3:e10)') in
the "Total" field, doesn't it automatically make that
field a "Calculation field"? If it doesn't how do you
make it a "Calculation field"?

How are you entering the formula? Are you typing it in the Form Field
Options dialog or in the protected text form field? You can't do the latter.
You must set the field to Calculation in the Form Field Options dialog,
which makes the Default Text box change to Expression. The = is entered for
you, and you then enter the formula after it. You can't type the formula as
data in a text form field.
