Adding a footnote in MS Word 2007 adds extra line-feeds.

When I add a footnote to an MS Word 2007 document, the line I add the
footnote to becomes the last line in that page, the footnote divider
line appears directly below it, then a bunch of line-feeds, and then
my footnote.

I would expect it to put the footnote divider at the bottom of the
page with no line-feeds after it.

I've posted a screenshot of the problem to my picasa account:

Is there a setting I can change to make this work the way I would
expect?

Thanks,
PaulH
