Adding a graphic in a header in Word 2003

How do I import a graphic into a header in a Word 2003 Template and fix
it in position?

I have a company header in which I wish to place a graphic but the
graphic keeps moving as I enter text.

Open the header view and insert the graphic. Change its layout property to
something other than in-line.

Thanks for info but I cannot see any way to change the layout

Click the graphic to select it. You should see the Picture toolbar, but you
can click View > Toolbars > Picture if you don't. On that toolbar is a
button that looks like a black dog in a square (tooltip says "Text
Wrapping"). Click that button and select Square.

Alternatively, you can select Format > Picture and go to the Layout tab of
that dialog to make the same selection.

Then you can drag the picture to the desired position.

Or even simpler - double click the graphic - then layout!

Tried that but square button and all other buttons in that group are
greyed out. I have tried both Picture Toolbar and Format> Picture.

I'm not sure what's going on in your template -- maybe something in
the file is damaged.

Try this, though: Delete the graphic. Go to Tools > Options > Edit.
Change the "Insert/paste pictures as" dropdown from "In line with
text" to "Square" (or maybe "Top and Bottom"). Close the dialog. Now
use Insert > Picture > From File to insert the graphic again. Does
that work?

If that doesn't help, try again in a new blank template.

If still no joy, try starting Word in Safe Mode by holding down the
Ctrl key while clicking the icon. If that works, then you may have a
damaged Normal.dot template or a bad add-in. See
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProbsOpeningWord.htm for
further troubleshooting.
