Adding a resource with 0h lead to a non-null cost

Daniel

When assigning a resource on a task with work=0h, the cost on this task is
the same that if the setting was work=1h. Is it a bug?
I know it sounds odd to set the work to 0h but some PMs have done it during
a trial and error process for some tasks and now the project total cost is
wrong.
Does it means it’s something not allowed?

Daniel,

Like you I thought that strange as I imagine zero times anything in a
computer should be zero. I tried with a one task project file, with one
resource with a standard billing rate of 10,000 $/day.

I could not replicate and with 0d or 0h for work on that one resource
the cost for the task computed as zero.

I used Project 2007 with Service Pack 2 applied.

Hello Daniel,

Like Rob, I cannot reproduce what you report. If you look at the
resource sheet, is there a cost per use for the resource?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Thanks a lot Julie, you are right, there is a cost per use for each
enterprise resources. I was not aware of that. I set it to zero and now
everything is fine.
Thanks again.
