Adding a "tool tip" comment to a button

I have buttons which access macros in my spreadsheet (xl2003).

Is there a way to add a comment (like a tool tip) so that it is highlighted
as the mouse passes over the button.

I want to add guidance notes as to the use of the buttons.

Can anyone help?

When designing your UserForm, click the button you want. In the Properties
Window (press F4 if not displayed), go to Control Tip Text. Type in the text
you want. I just learned that a month ago, and I use it whenever I can.

Yes its a floating button on the spreadsheet. Can these have a tolltip added
to them?

Thanks for the advice regarding buttons on forms - ive added tool tips for
the buttons on those forms.

Floating? Do you mean a commandbar button? If so, just add to the
ToolTipText property.

Hi Bob,

The button is one that sits in the spreadsheet. I placed it using the Forms
Toolbar, using the "button" button.

I assigned the macro to the button. I dont think the button has a properties
window.

What do you think?

There are no properties for the Form buttons, but if you create a button with
the Control Toolbox and hit F4, you will get properties for it. Double-click
the button, then copy and paste the macro into the CommandButton1_Click
procedure (located in the Sheet object where the button resides). When
copying the macro, copy the commands between the macro name and End Sub.

Does this work in xl2003? I can create tooltips on buttons in
userforms no problem, but when I create embedded buttons via the
control toolbox and look at properties (via right click when button is
selected in design mode - F4 seems to do nothing in this context)
control tooltip isn't one of the options. Are you using xl 2007 ?

I'm using 2003. I just checked now, and there is no ControlTipText option. I
thought there would be just like on a UserForm. Sorry.
