Adding additional custom headers to Outlook mail

Hi,

I want to add my own headers to emails in Outlook.

My employer (who I'll call foo.ac.uk) requires that outgoing
email sent for personal use contains a statement that the sender
is acting in a private capacity.

The statement is just one line and I'd like to add it as a
header, something like "X-Disclaimer: Lorem ipsum dolor sit
amet...". I would like to have the header only attached to mail
sent to domains outside of foo.ac.uk, because obviously messages
sent internally are always legitimate work email. :) So far, I've
not thought about how to do that part of it -- I'd be happy just
to have my X-Disclaimer header added.

I am using Outlook 2000 SP3, build 9.0.0.6627, which is installed
in 'Corporate or Workgroup' mode; and we are using Exchange
Server 2003 SP1, build 6.5.7226.0.

I have tried this approach: http://www.ivasoft.biz/addxheader.html

But it didn't work. I do have CDO. There are no error messages
given, just emails arriving without my additional header. My
searches have so far only lead me to the above method.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get this header added?
At home I use mutt, and I've already thought about how to acheive
the same thing. It'd be trivial to add an extra header to every
mail, but ensure the header is removed for messages to foo.ac.uk
(or you could reverse this - add the header when messages are
*not* sent to foo.ac.yk). Outlook seems quite hard, but I'd be
very happy to be proved wrong. :)

Thanks in advance.

That's the only approach available from Outlook. My guess is that the Exchange server is stripping it. You might be able to confirm that by testing with a POP/SMTP account.

[lines re-wrapped - problem with your newsreader?]

Hi Sue,

Thanks for the suggestion, but it's not the Exchange server
causing the problem. I've tested again using an SMTP account,
and I get the same thing: test messages arrive, but without my
additional header. I know the server isn't stripping anything,
because it's under my control (Exim 4.52, bog-standard config).

This is probably where I give up. I really don't know enough
enough to be able to debug this COM add-in or write my own. I
just want to use this program to send mail, I don't want to
become a programmer! :)

My Outlook odyssey continues. My next question here was going to
be, "How do I use Vim as my editor in Outlook?", but I've found
'cubiclevim' which does that:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/cubiclevim

Thanks for your help.
