Adding and deleting fonts from Fonts menu in Word for Mac

Two questions:

1. Some foreign fonts have suddenly appeared in my Fonts menu (Word
2004 for Mac--or is it 2003--the latest Word for Mac, anyway). I never
use them and they only lengthen the time it takes me to scroll through
the menu. How do I delete them? (How did they get in there in the first
place?)

2. How do I add a font to the menu? I've downloaded a nice font from a
free download site, dragged it to the HD, to Applications, but can I
get it onto the Fonts drop-down menu?

Thanks.

One answer:
Use Apple's Font Book application to manage your fonts.
Two suggestions:
In Word prefs, turn off WYSIWYG font menu. Then, once you have Word's
font menu displayed, start typing the name of the font. Then you won't
need to scroll as far, and without that stupid WYSIWYG double spaced
display, reaching the font will be about 10 times faster.

Be careful which foreign fonts you disable. Some are used by Word for
devious purposes. See this earlier discussion
