adding anothe rusers mailbox....

I would like to open another users mailbox.
1. i have 'owner' permissions on this mailbox.
2. folder visible is checked
3. outlook 2003 with ex2003 SP1


I can open another user's folder and see the inbox no problem. However,
when i go into tools > email accounts > view or change existing email
accounts > change > more settings > advanced tab > Add... i can select the
user.... but i get an "unable to expand the folder" error. Microsoft Office
Outlook could not access the specified folder location.

All the research i've done has told me to do something i've already
confirmed is enabled or working...
They want me to check .ost files and .pst files. this is an exchange
environment, there are no *.ost files for this user (didn't work offline) and
he didn't archive so there are no *.pst files.

Whats the deal??

Frusterated by now but appreciate any help.

Hi Tony,

If I remember correctly, I had a similar issue back when I was running
an Exchange Server (2000). The issue was that I was the admin for the
Exchange Server. Because of me having admin privileges, Exchange Server
wouldn't allow me to open another user's mailbox. A non-Exchange admin
user though could open another user's mailbox, just I couldn't do it
with my admin account.
Exchange Server is a distant memory for me and I can't find a KB article
on the issue right now (even though I remember there being one). It's
worth a try...
If it doesn't work, I'd go into the Exchange newsgroups and ask there.
My guess is that it is an Exchange, not an Outlook issue.

Thanks for replying Patrick,
I have just solved the problem although im not happy with the resolution.

I am a Domain admin and although I had 'Full Mailbox Access' rights in
Mailbox Rights on the account in ADUC, I had to explicitly add my account
and grant these rights. I tested a few combinations and it looks like this
is all that is needed. I am now able to expand the folder of the user in my
outlook 2003 folder list. I am not even listed on the permissions tab of the
inbox for the user and i have no 'Send On Behalf Of right.'
