Adding cells

On sheet 1 i have a list of names and a list of number
side by side. On sheet 2 i have another list with
formulas to extract the numerical value beside the exact
value I have specified.(vlookup function)

now when I try to add the numbers on sheet 2 it gives me
an answer of 0 because it is treating those cells as text
and not numbers.

I have tried to format the cells to represent numbers
instead of text and it still won't add them together
(treats the formula value as text still)

Help!!!!

You could try the following:

In an empty cell, type 1 (the number one). Select it and click Copy. Now,
select the range you want to convert from text to numbers and click Edit /
Paste Special / Multiply (from Operation) and hit Enter.
