Adding Contacts

I have been trying to add contacts to my Entourage either as New or duplicate information from another contact. After saving I search for the contact name via their name or company and it does not show up. If I go to the general contact list and look up the contact alphabetically it will show up. If I search by company that new contact is not there. Does anyone have any thoughts? Also, I am not sure if it makes a difference or not but my Time Machine was running while I was adding the contacts.

P.S. Up until today, I have had not experienced these problems...I have had my computer for about 8 months.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

The best way to add a contact is use the shortcut "add to Address Book"
Command-Option-C. (you'll find the shortcut under Message in the Menu bar)
If there is an entry for this person it will ask if you want to add to
existing contact.

Are you using the new Spotlight search box or the simple find box that has
Name contains etc in the popup? Using the Spotlight search will get the
results faster and includes more info.

More on "find" in Entourage:

Also, I am not sure if it makes a difference or not but my Time
Machine was running while I was adding the contacts.

Time Machine won't affect the actual copy of Entourage database you are
using, but your copies most likely are corrupt in Time Machine and are
worthless for backup.

Using Time Machine to backup Entourage basics:

It's advised by the developers not to let Time Machine backup your Entourage
database. If the database is copied while being used, the backup could be
corrupt. You can set the Time Machine to exclude the Office 2008 Identities
folder and create an iCal event to copy it over at night while not in use so
you get one backup daily in Time Machine.

Thank you for your reply.

I do one of two things:

In contacts I will click on the New icon and fill in the information. I have never had a problem with it before. There are times where I will bring up a person in the same company and make a duplicate card and then change the name, email, phone information. Again, never had any problem with doing things this way.

The second would be when I have an email come in with a person copied on the email. I will right click and "add to address book". Again, no problems with this either.

Now, when I do either procedure it does not seem to save the information I put in. I go back after saving and search for the person either by name or by company and they do not come up.

Since I do not know what the Spotlight search box is I am pretty sure I am using the find box (which I have done ever since I had the computer and never had a problem).

Have you ever heard of such problems before?

Thank you,

Did you click on the Save icon? You should have seen a warning message if
you didn't turn off under the Notification preference.

Try this, add a contact and assign it a category "special". You'll have to
create the category first. After you add the contact, if you don't find it,
sort by category and select special. Do you see it now?

In Office 2008 at the top right there is a search box with the magnifying
glass. This uses Spotlight to search Entourage. You have to turn on
Spotlight in Entourage preferences for this to work. In addition...

Is the Entourage Database Daemon (Office Notifications) turned on? Spotlight
will index any cache files the Entourage daemon has created even if the
daemon is not launched, but no new cache files will be created until the
daemon is launched again. If the Microsoft Sync daemon never launches,
there's no way for Entourage to sync data with Sync Services.

The simple Find box is below the Spotlight search and has popups to select
the search criteria like To, Name contains etc. depending on what view you
are in (mail, calendar, notes, tasks)
