Adding field when inputting contacts

I need to add additional fields to the phone numbers and
another option on for an address, i can add these fields
so they can appear when viewing the contacts but i cant
seem to view them when inputtinfg a contact. how can i get
these extra field to appear when i click on the arrow next
to the field?
