I'm assuming you *aren't* any longer using Word 2003 [2007, perhaps] & that
by "Symbol toolbar" you're referring to the dropdown palette in teh Symbols
group of the Ribbon? If my assumptions are correct...
Once you insert the character, select it & change the font color just as you
would for any alphanumeric character. If you intend to use them frequently
you can add them (one at a time) to the QuickParts Gallery or - even
better - as AutoCorrect items. See Word Help if you need it on how to do so:
