adding graphics

I am trying to set up a letterhead in word by using an Adobe
Illustrator file. When I import the graphic it always looks and prints
terrible! I can place a much simpler clip art file and it looks great.
I have tried changing the file type to various types, such as eps,
tiff, jpg, but all of them look and print very jaggy.

Can anybody help?

Try googling the group. It is a famous problem.
The answer depends on your printer - does it do Postscript?
....and on what format you exported from Illy
.......and on whether you changed its size on Word
..........and on how you changed the file types and with what
.............and on the phase of the moon
................and whether the goat you sacrificed was a virgin.

For easy to manage, export from Illy as tiff at about 300 dpi, at the
size you want it to appear when printed at that resolution.

That will work even for bitmap-ish drongo pcl printers printed via PDF.

Except if your logo is richly coloured and contains gradients.
In which case, give up on Word and use something with merchantable
quality page layout and typography.

I got eps to work for my logo ok with a proper Postscript printer.
Printing to PDF still screws up. You can work around that by printing
to PS file and then converting the PS to PDF with Mac's Preview program
in OS X 10.3.mumble

The whole business of handling graphics in Word is utterly broken.

If you haven't already, open the file in Illustrator & Save As in Adobe
Illustrator Document format. When the next dialog box appears check the box
for Create PDF Compatible File. Not a bad idea to remove the check for Use
Compression. (Based on Word 2004 & Illustrator CS)

If this doesn't show improvement, please include versions of software &
source of image file if you repost. Thanx |:>)
