Jennifer

Step 1. Determine the given name of the required Lotus Notes database
containing user information, and the server containing that database. (DONE)
2. On the Shared Services Administration page, in the Search section, click
Search settings. (DONE)
3. On the Configure Search Settings page, in the Crawl Settings section,
click Content sources and crawl schedules. (DONE)
4. On the Manage Content Sources page, click New Content Source. (DONE)
5. On the Add Content Source page, in the Name section, in the Name box,
type a name for the content source. (DONE)
6. Under “Content Source Typeâ€, select Lotus Notes. ????

The only selections I see is SharePoint Sites, Web Sites, File Shares,
Exchange Public Folders and Business Data. No Lotus Notes.

I haven't done this before, but my suspicionis security is blocking this
process. You are coming to terms with two robust security models and finding
a common security thread (user account) and setting up the security will be
the challenge.

What kind of error messages are you finding in the event log.

I don't know what database lotus notes uses, but if they have a tool like
SQL Profiler, see if queries are getting to the LDAP.
