adding names to a distribution list

I'm running Outlook 2002. I'm creating a distribution
list, and I named a list. I
see the...

Names Members -> Add to distribution list

I'm using the very standard list of names from Contacts.
When I move one of them into the distribution list, all
that ends up in the distribution list is a ; -- a
semicolon. Can you help? Thank you!
