Adding new Powerpoint Templates to Office XP

P

Paul Dunn

We are using Office XP SP3 in our environment.

Due to a recent change in the name of our company we have created new
Powerpoint templates. I need to copy these templates to all workstations in
the company.

Some workstations are mutli-user. Is there a setting with Powerpoint or a
registry key I can change so that I only have to copy the templates to a
workstation once and then point all user profiles to this location?

Thanks,
Paul

Paul, PPT has no way to set this, but I vaguely recollect someone saying that
it follows the template file location settings you establish in Word's Options
dialog. Try changing the template location there (for each user) and see if
that sorts PowerPoint out too.

If so, you can probably locate the registry key in each user's profile to
change.

The specific file location that needs to be changed is the Workgroup
Templates location under Tools/Options/File Locations. You don't want to
change the User Templates location and point it to a shared location due to
the Normal template for Word, which is in the User Templates folder, since
it wasn't designed to be shared and each user should have their own personal
copy.
