Adding Pages to a project

I want to add existing html pages to my website
project,however the insert page advice given in the help
section is wrong i.e. it does not ask for which type of
page to insert. Can anyone help please.

Publisher is not an html editor. You cannot add existing html files to the
web publication.

( if you could then customers wouldn't freak when they lose their pub file)
