Adding references in word

My word has some text:

"This is what happened in the year 1980. blah blah blah"

I want to add a reference/ and footnote (small numbered figures in
between and ref at the end) to this text.

The final text should read as
____________________________
"This is what happened in the year 1980.1 blah blah blah"

1 See texbook on the topic.
____________________________

How to add this footnote?

insert a footnote using the default settings.
