Adding research sources to the research pane.

I work for a large corporate law firm using word 07. The research pane tool
seems like a good concept but when I get into the options, I have limited
choices of other services I can search such as language translation services.
How would I go about adding a source from outside the default list? I know
there is an add button, but Im not sure what information I would need from
the new search engine in order to add it to my list of searchable resources.
Can anyone help me with this?

If you search Help for "look up" and read "about research services", it says
that if your company has an intranet site implemented with Microsoft Office
SharePoint Portal Server 2003, you can add that intranet site to the list of
All Intranet Sites and Portals, in the Add Services dialog box, type
http://your root directory/_vti_bin/search.asmx.

Translated into English, assuming your company has spent $30K on a Portal
Server (software and hardware that allows the company to 'serve' multiple
websites to the web and/or to the company Intranet), you could build a
private 'website' consisting of thousands of pages of re-usable boilerplate,
etc. and then add that 'website' to your list of Research Sources. There
would probably be other issues to address in setting the information up for
easy search/retrieval; a consultant's advice might be needed there.

Hope this helps,
