Adding Revision Date Field to Footer

Probably an easy task but I'm stumped. I am working on a pre-existing
document. The date is in the footer. Problem is it's the published date. I am
now updating the document & would like for this field to become the updated
date field... so that it changes every time the document is modified. How do
I make that happen?
