Adding rows to a worksheet with subtotals

I have a worksheet with subtotals, some of which I created using the standard subtotal process, others I added afterwards using different formulas. I now need to add more data to this worksheet and have the new rows subtotalled as well. I don't want to lose the existing subtotal lines as they are complex and would take a long time to re-create. How can I add the extra rows, please?

If you're inserting the new Rows (or Cells) within the range of your
calculation the calculation will automatically update to include the newly
added cells. Just Insert the rows or cells within the existing range by using
the Insert menu among other techniques.
