Adding secure pages to my site...HELP!

A

AngelJ

I am the Director of a group home for boys and need a way of adding secure
pages to my site so parents and others with passwords only can access
confidential information on their sons/clients referred to the home. Is
there a way to add these types of pages to my website using FrontPage 2003
and if so, how?

Please help. I am able to edit our website but that is about it and I'm
really tired of playing around with this thing. I just want clear easy
answers to the question or someone point me in the direction of a good
programmer and website designer that can do it for me.

Thanks!

I am, by no means, an expert on this, but maybe you need to look
outside FP for a solution...

Where is the web hosted? Many hosts offer some sort of password
protection facility within their "control panel" or "site admin"
panel.

I host several webs on the 5GB of server space I buy from a Linux
hosting provider, and have one web on a Windoze server (where I needed
to use an MS-Access DB).

My Linux host offers CPanel, under "Site Management" > Web Protect,
this took about 3 minutes to set up:

Try this folder: www.lsidaho.com/password (Linux w/Apache server)
user = test
pass = tester

Under "Site Access", the Windoze host has "file permissions" and
"password protect." The below was done with "password" in just a few
minutes:

Try this folder: www.boiseridgeriders.org/password (Windows Server)

user = test
pass = tester

-----------------------------------------------------
If you are on a Apache webserver, you can do it by hand:

http://www.euronet.nl/~arnow/htpasswd/documentation.html

"This page describes how to set up HTTP user authentication for
webserver types that use '.htpasswd' and '.htaccess' files, such as
the CERN and Apache webservers."
-----------------------------------------------------

If you need more help, or would like to host your web on my server
space, email me at:

This will probably be more complicated than you think. You only want Mr.
Smith to be able to access little Johnny Smith's info, and not Mr. Jones'
son Tommy...right? Find a programmer, especially if it's sensitive
confidential stuff.

Someone here may be interested if they see this post,

Thank you. I figured it would be a lot more complicated and time consuming
than I would want to get into or was even able to do myself. I would love to
find someone to do it for me and hope to soon. I hope you're right and
someone will respond to these posts. Thanks again for taking the time to
respond.

I will look wherever I need to look for the solution to this. I have even
found websites that I really like that are very similar to the one that I
want to create but can't find the publisher/creator of the website listed to
contact. I cannot do and need some definate help and direction. I just want
to turn it over to someone who knows this stuff and let them do their thing
and do it right. Any suggestions?
