Adding sound files to presentation causes Powerpoint to freeze

I'm trying to add .mp3 files to a slideshow presentation, and after I
add the sound files, Powerpoint freezes if I try to play the slideshow.
Similarly, it also freezes when I view the Custom Animation order and
try to preview the song.

Seems to work fine with sound clips, but not with any mp3 song files.

Any ideas?

I'm having trouble adding a mp3 file. It seems I can only add wav files. Do
you know how I can change any settings so it will accept the mp3 files? You
problem may have to do with this as well.

You can't add MP3 files as sound transitions, but you should be able to add
them via Insert | Movies and Sounds | Sound from File. So, the question back
to you is, how are you trying to insert the MP3s?

I'm inserting the song that way, but if I send the slideshow via email, the
recipients are not able to hear any music, but can view the slideshow. If I
add an animation, then click onto "Effect Options", it will only allow me to
insert a .wav file and not a .mp3 file. Is there any way to trick powerpoint
into thinking the mp3 file is a wav file?

You can't add MP3 files as sound transitions, but you should be able to add
them via Insert | Movies and Sounds | Sound from File. So, the question back
to you is, how are you trying to insert the MP3s?

Yeah, you can use a utility like CDex to add RIFFWav headers. Then PPT will
think it's a WAV and let you insert it into transitions or effect options.
There's been anecdotal evidence that the audio files don't play on all
systems, though. Just FYI.
