Adding text before a page number

I want to add text before the page number in the footer, i.e., App-I, and I
want it to show up that way in the table of contents. But when I insert the
page number and then type the App- in front of it it only pulls the page
number not the App- to the TOC. Helpppppppp.

Creating a Built in Heading style that you are not using for anything else.

Format with (in your case) the App- as a prefix for the numbering

Reference this style in the section you want to use the prefix in and format
it as "Hidden Text"

Then when you Insert your page #... check "Include Chapter #" and then
select the the style you have formatted.
