adding text to link bar

There is a navigation bar on the left. I'd like to re-organize the site into
2 sections - one for visitors, and one for members. I'd like to split the
buttons into two groups under text labels. I did figure out how I could add
text above or below the buttons... but is there any way to get text between
the buttons?
I'd like to keep the HOME button on the top, then have text saying something
like "Especially for our guests" or "Get to know us" or some such, with the
buttons under that for the Who We Are, Where We Are, etc. pages. Then under
that I'd like to have more text that says something like "Especially for our
members" with buttons below that for "Announcements, Newsletters" etc.

Is there a way to do this?
