Adding Trusted Location hosed DB

Began using Access 2007 a couple months ago, with a DB created in Access
2003. I use the DB infrequently so clicking the 'enable content' button
wasn't really a pain but I finally decided last week to add a Trusted
Location. Opened the Trust Center and enabled a parent folder (two levels up)
and allowed subfolders as a trusted location. Clicked OK and poof! the DB
totally evaporated. Gone. I'm not a generally clueless user. It. Is. Gone.
The recent list shows the DB but attempting to open it only gets me the
'cannot be found' message.

Anyone ever hear of this kind of thing happening? Any thoughts about
resurrecting the DB? I have a three-month-old backup and there's not too much
I'm going to have to recreate.

Very strange indeed.

Some questions for you:
1. What operating system are you using?
2. Was any code running at the time?
3. What file format was the database in (MDB, ACCDB)?

Thanks,

Thanks for the information Jacy. I haven't been able to duplicate this problem so far, but I'll keep
testing. Do you recall if you did a Compact and Repair on this database right before it went to
never-never land? Did you have Compact On Close selected?
XP Pro SP2

None that I'm aware of.

It was still MDB.

Hi Jeff,

No, I didn't do a Compact & Repair and while I don't know what the setting
was for Compact on Close, I do know I had not changed it from the default.

I'd used the .mdb file about a half-dozen times since upgrading to Access
2007 with no problems. The hierarchy was D:\Folder 1\Folder 2\file.mdb, and
as far as I can recall this is what I did: After completing my once-weekly
update to the DB, I went into the Trust Center and added Folder 1 and its
subfolders as a trusted location. I can't recall if the DB was still open at
the time I did this, or if I'd already closed the DB but was still in the
same session of Access. I also can't remember if I tried to open it
immediately and discovered it missing, or if it was the following week. Since
updating my backup .mdb (and backing it up!) I've played around with this
several times myself, trying to duplicate the original problem, and of course
I cannot. :/

I don't really expect a solution because I know it's one of those arcane
things that are almost impossible to troubleshoot, I just wanted to go on
record with it. In almost 20 years this is the first time I've ever had a
file just vanish - bizarre!
