Adding word to Word's German dictionary

I'm using OS 10.5.6 and getting a lot of benefit out of Word 2004's
ability to spell check in German. However, every time I send a letter
to Munich I constantly have to tell Word to ignore new words--like
"Barak" or "Obama", for instance.

The "Add" button I would use when checking English is not active. Any
idea how I can add new words to Word's German dictionary?

You can't add to any of the default dictionaries - when you Add words they
need to be added to a Custom Dictionary. Apparently you don't have one... At
least not for German. What you should need to know will be found here:
