Additional cost

Hello,

We have forgotten to include packaging materials against some tasks. So we
decided to add as additional cost. Now can any one help me as how can I do
this ( Should I create additionl enterprise cost field wherein we can enter
the cost?) and how it will be added in EAC.

Thanks

You could handle this several ways:

1. Apply the Gantt Chart view and then click View - Table - Cost. Enter
the cost of the packaging materials in the Fixed Cost column. Set the Fixed
Cost Acrrual value to how you want the Fixed Cost to accrue on each task.

2. Create an Expense Cost resource called Packaging Materials. Assign the
Packaging Materials resource to the tasks that have this extra cost.
Navigate to the Task Usage view and enter either a Cost or an Actual Cost on
each Packaging Materials assignment.

Just a couple of thoughts. Hope this helps.

Hello Dale,

Thanks a lot. First option worked.

Second option I was worried to add the packaging material resource as the
project is baselined. I dont know how the project cost is calculated if the
resource is added after baseline and assigned the cost. Could you help me!

Also is there any reference material or link where I can view how all the
cost fields are caluculated and their formula!

Thanks

If you wish to include the new Fixed Costs in the original Baseline of the
project, then do the following:

1. Use the Control key to select each task to which you added a Fixed Cost.
2. Click Tools - Tracking - Set Baseline.
3. Select the "Selected tasks" option and then select the "To all summary
tasks" option.
4. Click the OK button.
5. When prompted, click the Yes button to overwrite the Baseline.

Please note that the above procedure will only append the original Baseline
with the new information and will not destroy your original Baseline
information. To learn more about how Microsoft Project deals with cost
information, I would recommend you do the following:

1. Apply the Gantt Chart view.
2. Click View - Table - Cost.
3. Float your mouse pointer over any of the cost-related columns and then
click the "Help on _____" hyperlink for the column.

From there you can read the Help article on any column and see important
information about the column, including how the column is calculated. Hope
this helps.
