Additional functionality when displaying an email?

Dick

Our users require a mechanism by which they can pass selected emails into our
workflow and document management system.

Phase 1 simply requires the email to be passed and I’ve already solved this.

Phase 2 is more complex in that it requires the user to capture additional
meta-data about the email before it is passed.

I had hoped to use Outlook Forms to achieve this but I can’t discover how.
Is it possible?

I hoped to create a new Outlook Form that the user would use to open the
emails. The form would have the additional fields into which the meta-data
would be entered by the user.

The documentation I’ve found on this subject talks about using an Outlook
Form to create a *new* item but not about using an Outlook Form to open an
*existing* one!

professional working with you may need further investigation to reach the
most efficient resolution. The offering is not appropriate for situations

Hi Wei Lu

I checked the article you suggested. It describes how to create an Outlook
Form for use when *creating* a new mail item and when *replying* to the same
new mail item.

I want to create an Outlook Form for use when opening emails that have come
from external clients. We have no control over these clients - I can't even
predict who they'll be - they could easily be members of the public using a
hotmail account.

These emails arrive in an Exchange folder. Our staff access the folder via
Outlook. I want Outlook to use an Outlook Form to open these emails.

We use Exchaneg 5.5 and Outlook 2003.

Thanks for your continued help.

Hello Dick,

Since this issue is related with Custom Form in Outlook, I suggest you post
it in the newsgroup microsoft.public.outlook.program_forms which discuss
forms in outlook.

Thank you for your understanding.

Sincerely,

Wei Lu

I can't post in the newsgroup you suggest becuase it isn't a managed
newsgroup and therefore I'll not be guaranteed a response. Please suggest an
alternative. Thanks.

Hello Dick,

Unfortunately, currently, only this newsgroup provide the support to the
custom form in outlook. I suggest you could call PSS if this issue is
urgent.

Wei Lu

I'm sorry but I'm somewhat confused and frustrated by your responses so far.

My expectation is that by posting to a *Managed* Newsgroup I'll get help
from an experienced Microsoft professional (and it's worth saying that in the
past I've been very pleased to receive excactly that).

In this case however you've given me no help beyond (a) suggesting that I
read another article (which didn't help) (b) suggesting that I post in
another *unmanaged* newsgroup and now (c) calling PSS.

Now, firstly, I don't know what PSS is, nor do I know how to contact them,
but that is not the point. As part of my MSDN subscription I pay for support
via the managed newsgroups but in this case I don't seam to be receiving any.
Please can you explain why!!!!

Wei Lu [MSFT]

Hello Dick,

Sorry for making you confused.

The reason why I suggest you to post a unmanaged newsgroup is that
newsgroup is more proper to provide the support for the custom form issue.
Other community member and MVPs may have more experience in this area and
could provide some suggestion on this.

As for the PSS, since you are a MSDN subscriber, we provide Technical
Support Incidents for you. You could call Product Support. For more
detailed information, you could refer this web site:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/aa948874.aspx

Technical Support Incidents
As an MSDN subscriber, you are entitled to receive up to four support
incidents depending on your subscription level. These support incidents can
be used for assistance with technical break-fix issues. Sign in and click
the Support Incidents link for more information.

To obtain the phone numbers for a specific technology request please take
a look at the web site listed below.
<http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;PHONENUMBERS>

If you are outside the US please see http://support.microsoft.com for
regional support phone numbers.

Since your issue seems to be urgent, I would like to involve other
resources and you could send an email to me. I will request for some
detailed information for you. To reach me, please remove the ONLINE in my
display email address.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Wei Lu
