Additional typing over a saved document

I have a number of documents that have a statement and then some lines which
people are supposed to enter details.
However, I have tried to enter these details and the lines keep moving to
the right and upset the page layout.
I have included 2 examples of what I mean below. The first is the original
saved document and the second is where I have added details: -

Car/Boat/Trailer/Caravan etc ___________________________________________
Make __________________________Reg No ___________________________

Car/Boat/Trailer/Caravan etc _____Car______________________________________
Make ___Toyota_______________________ Reg No ___________1BPO XXX
________________

I have followed the 'help' instructions and have clicked on the Office
button/Word Options tab/Advanced tab and unchecked the Use overtype mode.
However nothing seems to work and the document keeps getting messed up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
