Address Block option

Using Word XP, and I'm trying to insert a Mail Merge Address block using an Excel XP spreadhseet as the source. We store all of our zip codes in the Zip Format. The address block eliminates opening zeroes. To fix the problem, I have to edit the Addrss Block Code to exclude the POSTAL part, and then insert a MERGEFIELD Zip with a number format attached. This is a bit tedious, and I was hoping there was a better workaround.
My office prefers to keep VBA to a minimum, so I'm hoping for a non-Macro answer. But, if code exists, I'd take that, too.

attached. This is a bit tedious, and I was hoping there was a better
workaround.I shouldn't think you'd ever need to perform any calculations in Excel
with the Zipcode field? So one possibility wuld be to format that entire
column in Excel as "text", using the Data/Test to columns command.

The other approach would be to revert to the older DDE connection method
older versions of Word used. You'll find instructions for that in the
Word 2002 section of my website.

Only Counting how many people per zip. We can work around that by changing the formula. Thanks
