Address Block question

Using Word XP, I'm trying to insert a Mail Merge Address block using an Excel XP spreadhseet as the source. We store all of our zip codes in the Zip Format. The address block eliminates opening zeroes. To fix the problem, I have to edit the Addrss Block Code to exclude the POSTAL part, and then insert a MERGEFIELD Zip with a number format attached. This is a bit tedious, and I was hoping there was a better solution. Can it be done with VBA (I have very little experience with VBA)?
