address book and contacts

Heidi

Hi all -
I am very confused. I am using Outlook 2000 not on an
Exhange server

What is the difference between the entries in my personal
address book and those in my contacts folder? I have
entered info in the Address Book for hundreds of people,
and can see all of that info in my Contacts. However,
when I update an entry in my address book, I have to
double click on the entry for the same person in the
Contacts folder to get it update. So:

1. Aren't the Address Book and Contact List redundant?
Aren't they doing the same thing? I don't want to update
info in 2 places.
2. Can I delete the entries in my Address Book and still
keep them in Contacts? How? I tried this, and it seems to
be relational; if I delete an address book entry, it
deletes it in the Contacts, too.

Help! Thanks so much!

Clarify whether you are using a Personal Address Book or the Outlook Address
Book. If you don't know, post your mail support mode so we can tell you how
to check.

I am using Outlook 2000 Internet Mail Only. In the drop
down menu under "Tools", it is called "Address Book" but
I guess that would be a personal address book?
Any help you can give would be DEEPLY appreciated!

Then you are not using a Personal Address Book at all. In fact, forget you
ever heard that term. The PAB has not been in use for years.
You are using the Outlook Address Book. The Outlook Address Book contains no
data. It is merely a view of the electronic addresses in your Contacts
Folder. Accordingly, you should never attempt to add or edit data in the
Outlook Address Book view. Always use your Contacts Folder for that. That's
where the data actually resides.

Outlook 2000 for Intrent Mail, Version 9.0. It is an
address book version 6.00 2800 1450.
Does that help?
