I'm a new convert from PC (& Office) to Mac. One feature I liked in Outlook was that I had a choice how to "file" a contact - some by name and some by company. I can't find a similar setting for Entourage. Anyone have any ideas?

You could assign a category like Company: Microsoft, Company: Apple, but
really why not just sort by column to find what you want. If you can
describe how you use this to either find an item or send a message to, we
could explain how you do this in Entourage.

I am trying to achieve the same. In outlook 2007, you can use "File
as" and it will "file" the contact under that. Mobile device (using
ActiveSync) uses this information to show your contacts. So for
example if my contact was "John Doe" and was filed as "Johnny Boy", it
would be listed as "Johnny Boy" instead of "Doe, John" or "John Doe".
Based on my (not so great) example, how can I achieve a similar
behavior?

Not sure if I am understanding you, but here goes....

You can assign a nickname to a contact in the nickname field. It is never
seen by anyone but you. You can start addressing a message and use the
nickname field, but it's not used in the message. So if you used fat boy as
the nickname, only you would see it and be able to use it.

Easy way to add a contact to the Entourage Address Book:

With message open, use shortcut Command-Option-C or under Message in the
Menu bar for Entourage 2008, select "Add to Address Book". A contact will
open for you to edit. Add a category to every message for best results. If
you do this and get dupes, then all dupes will have the category "None"
assigned. Sort by "none" and delete.

Use a category in a rule instead of an address:
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/rules/example/rule002.html>

If you want to sync only certain contacts to your phone, then set up a
category for phone contacts. When you add that person to your Address Book,
assign them that category. You can use multiple categories with a contact.

Next, get this script that will sycn the Entourage category to the Apple
Address Book as a group for syncing to your phone.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for your response.

I don't think I communicated my issue correctly. Outlook 2007 (thick
client) has the "File as" option that is editable drop down. By
default the choices are "Last, First", "Last, First (Company", "First
Last", etc.

OWA has the drop down but cannot be edited. You have to chose from the
drop down.

The file as feature gives me "nick name" capability on my windows
mobile phone. Let me elaborate:

The "File as" feature lets me see a different name when I get a call
from my contact on windows mobile phone. If I were to get a call from
one of my contacts on my windows mobile phone, it would show the name
I filed as. For example, if I have a contact "John Doe", and I filed
it as "Johnny Boy", when I get a call from John Doe, its going to show
call from "Johny Boy". Also, on my windows mobile phone, when I go
through my contacts, this contact will show up as "Johny Boy" and not
John Doe. When I get a call from an individual who is in part of my
exchange contacts, I don't want their first/last names to be displayed
when they call me. I need their "filed as" name.

Hopefully i was a bit clear this time.

Entourage has nothing like this or even close. Sorry!

All this and it's a one word answer (no). :)

Send feedback to Microsoft to get this option added to the wish list for the
next version of Entourage.

When working in Office, you can use the ³Send Feedback² option under the
Help menu in all of the Office applications or visit
