Address Book for envelopes

I cannot access the Outlook Contact list when using the
address book feature in envelopes. It errors with the
message that I must open the Microsoft Exchange.

Is Outlook the default e-mail application?
Check the contacts list properties in Outlook to ensure it is flagged as an
Outlook address book
