Address book icon causes Outlook 2000 to quit unexpectantly

Wendy

I am running Office 2000 and Windows XP. When I use
Outlook and click on the Address book icon, Outlook
unexpectantly quits. Are there any solutions out there to
solve this problem? Has anyone else experienced this
error?

Furthermore, when typing a new message and using the "TO"
function to access my address book, the address book will
appear in this instance. However, I can only access one
address at a time. I must choose a name, select "ok" once
it's been added to the "Message recipients" column. Then
to retrieve additional names, I must select and add them
in one a time. If I try to select more than one name,
when using the scroll bar to find additional recipients,
Outlook will then unexpectantly quit.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Office 2000
several times, but to no avail.

Any help/insights are greatly appreciated!!

I've seen many similar posts, but no one is able to reproduce the problem
consistently. The last I checked Microsoft cannot reproduce the problem
either.
Did the Address Book icon ever work in this installation? If so, do you know
the steps that created this behavior?

Yes, the Address Book icon has worked previously with both
installations (XP environment and with the rest of Office
2000). Unfortunately, the problem has been occurring
since sometime January 2003 and I am not able to recollect
or recreate the steps that created this behaviour.

One suggestion I've received is to upgrade to Office XP.
Any comments or suggestions on that? Thanks for all input!

I wonder if you installed SP3 last January. That seemed to cause problems
for some folks.

I never recommend an "upgrade" to fix an existing problem. It might go away
(especially if you do a clean install), but it might not (especially if you
do an inplace upgrade). I'd try some routine maintenace first: create a new
profile from scratch and repair your PST (if you're using a local
information store).
