Address Book [on my computer] doesn't stay selected

I am running Office X on Mac OS X 4.3. When I go to the Address Book
I often find that it has selected Bigfoot or another address service
and tries to connect to the internet. this is time consuming and
irritating. How can I get the Address Book to remain selected?
