address book opens in search

I am using Outlook 2007. When adding contacts to my address book I ran into 2
problems.

Problem 1: The more urgent problem is: I can't get out of Search. When I
open Address Book (either by clicking the book icon, or going to
Tools-Address Book, or control-shift-B), it opens to the Search box. It asks
me to "Type your search keywords and click 'go' to perform a search." If I
search, it works. When I save and close the contact, and open Address Book
again, it opens to the search box. I can't find a way to look at my address
book - I can only see the search box and individual contacts if I search for
them. How do I get Outlook to show me my Address Book?

I've re-started the program. I've rebooted. No change.

Problem 2: Before Problem 1 started, I entered a new contact, but just a
name and phone number - no email address. The contact did not display in the
address book (remember, this is when I could still see my address book). How
can I access the contact info for this contact, when it doesn't appear in the
address book? How can I edit it, or look at the phone number I entered? It's
as if it isn't there. (But I know it is - thinking I must have made a
mistake, I tried to re-enter it and was told there was a contact with
identical information.)

Thanks to anybody who can help.

You never use the address book view for data entry or editing. That's not
what it's for and never was.
Use the Contacts Folder. That where Contact data resides.
The address book view only displays electronic addresses so of course a
phone number wouldn't appear.
