Address book records being overwritten from previous save.

Newbie: I've been updating entourage records to make sure we have correct
info. While doing so noticed that I would update and save an address in one
record, then move on to another and update the phone number or something
else, then when choosing save, before my eyes I watch the address be erased
and replaced with the address I changed on the previous record. I've found
at least 6 records affected so far, it seems to be only addresses that are
overwritten not phone or other information. HELP.

I've exported the data as a archieve without problem. I've also checked the
database for errors as I saw someone else suggest and that showed no errors.
I wasn't able to find how to export to MBOX, how to drag contacts to the
desktop.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks

When you say record, do you mean a contact in the Address Book? Are you
doing this in Entourage?

This is strange and not reported before so I'm guessing it's something you
are doing incorrectly. Perhaps if you wrote the steps exactly in detail we
might catch what you are doing wrong.

You can drag a folder of messages to the desktop and this will create an
MBOX file, or you can use a script to export all folders as MBOX files. MBOX
files are only for messages.

From your header, I see you are using an out of date version of Entourage:
Microsoft-Entourage/11.4.0.080122

Download the following updates to fully update Entourage 2004:

Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.5.0 Update released June 24, 2008 (This is
a combo updater. This update includes all the improvements that were
released in previous Office 2004 updates.) 59mb

Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.5.1 Update released: Tuesday, August 12,
2008 15mb. Requires 11.5.0 be installed.

Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.5.2 Update released: October 14, 2008 13mb.
Requires 11.5.1 be installed....contains a critical security update for
Excel.

Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.5.3 Update released December 9, 2008, 15.1
mb. Requires 11.5.2 be installed... contains updated time zone information.

To verify if the problem is a symptom of database corruption, create a new
Identity in Entourage (no need to enter account info for this test). Drag a
few contacts to the desktop for testing in the new Identity. Can you edit in
the new Identity? If yes, then you need to rebuild your database. If no,
then test in a new User. <http://tinyurl.com/bhl83m>

How to rebuild:

Make a duplicate in the Finder first as additional backup. A rebuild does
make a duplicate, but sometimes in the process the original and backup get
merged resulting in total disaster. It's rare but it happens.
