Address book search

S

Simon Pollock

Entourage 11.2.3 running on OS X 10.4.6. I have around 1800 contacts in my
address book. If I put a name in the search box it can take up to 15 sec to
find the persons name. If I do a rebuild which may improve this how does
this affect my exchange server synchronisation?

Please advise

Thanks

The rebuild is unlikely to improve thios performance - I had about 3,000
entries and the performance was worse than this - I cut them down to about
1500 and see a similar delay. Other people have reported the same.

If you do decide to rebuild, the local exchange cache will be wiped out and
a full re-sync will take place next time you connect to each folder. You
will loose categories, projects, contact groups and other stuff that doesn't
sync to the server.

When you do a rebuild, Entourage will dump your local cache and synchronize
your contacts again from the server.

Depending on your goal, one option may simply be to use Spotlight.
Spotlight searches are significantly faster than Entourage.
