Address software for exporting into Word mail merge/excel recom endation wanted

What is a good address/contacts software program that will allow me to
export specified fields of a list of contacts into an Excel spreadsheet
or for use with MS Word mail merge. I have a iBook G4 Mac OS X v.10.4
and just ordered MS Office Suite 2004 for macs (Word, Ecel, PoweerPoint
and Entourage?). I read on Microsoft's website that Outlook only works
up to version 10.2.

I will be using the Address book more in the traditional way (through
email) than as mail merge in Word. I just do not want to duplicate the
work by creating two sets of contacts. Although if I can export certain
fields out of my address book (as a group of contacts) and import them
into a MS Office application that would be great. I do not want my
address book to be an Access database (as one person suggested) as this
does not have the features needed for email functionality.

I am willing to pay for a good, preferably easy to use address book
software program if it can do these things. The mac email program only
exports in the vcards format. I want a format that can be easily
imported into Word's mail merge or an Excel spreadsheet. BTW, can I use
an Excel spreadsheet for Word mail merging?

Thanks in advance for all responses.

Hi Deb,

Office 2004 comes with a program called Entourage, and that program should
fulfil all your needs. Entourage is similar to Outlook in many ways (btw.,
Outlook is not available for Mac OS X): it's got six feature sets, email,
address book, calendar, tasks, notes and projects (a Mac-only feature).
Entourage is tightly integrated with the rest of Office, meaning that you
can use its address book from within Word to create a mail merge, and you
can also export it as a text file for use in other programs, such as Excel.
And yes, you can use Excel spreadsheets for mail merges, as far as I know.

Anyway, you should read a little bit more about Entourage; I cannot
guarantee that it will meet all your needs, but since it's part of Office
and you're partially paying for it as well, you should definitely give it a
try.
