Hi all,
separating email recipients with a semicolon entourage make a bad address:

i.e

<[email protected]>;<[email protected]>

is translated in

;<[email protected]@one.com>

No problem using comma instead of semicolon but when i receive email Entourage gives me bad addressess.

Thanks in advance

Can you give a bigger picture of what's happening and what you're trying
to accomplish?

Is someone trying to send you a list of E-mail addresses in the body of
a mail message? Or are you trying to get the list from the "To" field?

First, a properly formatted address would be:

First Last <[email protected]>

Note that the Display Name appears followed by the E-mail address in
brackets.

If you simply need to send a list of E-mail addresses without the
Display Names then try:

(e-mail address removed);[email protected]

without the brackets.

Hope this helps!

Hi Bill, thank you for your answer.

This issue occours when:
1- Someone send me an email with multiple recipients in to or cc fields as semicolon separeted values (that's a big problem!)
2- I write an email to multiple recipients in to,cc or bcc fields and I separate them with a semicolon; I'm talking about new addresses, never used before in Entourage. That's not a big problem (I can separate them with comma) but helps me to investigate about problem 1

<[email protected]>,<[email protected]> OK
(e-mail address removed),[email protected] OK

(e-mail address removed);[email protected] ERROR: Return me only one address (e-mail address removed)@domain.com and I can't send the mail

<[email protected]>;<[email protected]> ERROR: Return me only one address ;<[email protected]@domain.com> and I can't send the email

It seems like Entourage doesn't support SSV (semicolon separated values) but only CSV (comma separated values) but usually received email recipients are SSV...

Are you trying to mimic Outlook's behavior where you can enter an
address, follow it with a semi-colon and then enter another E-mail
address on the same line?

Entourage does not support address E-mail messages from left-to-right
but rather top-to-bottom. (It will display them from left-to-right,
however.)

When addressing a message enter each address followed by a "tab" and
you'll be taken to the next line to enter the next address. Hit "tab"
twice in a row to move between the "To", "Cc" and "Bcc" fields.

If I'm misunderstanding you then please let me know.

Hope this helps!

Bill,
you misunderstanding me.

It's not a problem for me how to insert recipients; there's only one way to do it? Ok I will use that.

My real problem is related to received mails: when someone write me mail with semicolon separeted recipients. These recipients are "rejected".

I saw that this issue comes receiving and writing mails, that's all.
I thought that writing-related issue was useful to investigate root causes.

That's not true. Using commas I can do it ;)

Thanks,

Jary

P.S.

I have the same problem with my IPhone but not with Outlook, OWA or any other exchange client.

I think I am indeed completely misunderstanding you. Could you post
step-by-step what happens and the results? If screenshots would help
then you can post them for free here <http://www.imageshack.us/>.

You keep saying the problem is that folks are sending you messages with
addresses separated by semi-colons but you're not telling me what
happens. Does this cause problems when you *reply* to everyone?

Entourage does not support adding addresses to a message that are
separated by semi-colons. Either use the tab key to start a new address
or use a comma. (Didn't know that would work but it does.) I suggest
using the tab key because Entourage will auto-complete addresses.
Otherwise, you must type the complete address.

Outlook for Windows can use semi-colons to separate addresses but commas
are the specified separator in RFC 822. I would guess that Outlook
converts these semi-colons to commas when sending but I don't know.
Semi-colons are not standard.

Hope this helps!

This looks very much like the sender is using semi-colons to separate
addresses. Again, this isn't standard.

I tested sending to three of my accounts through Gmail's website and I
did indeed receive the messages. And when I viewed the source of the
messages (Message menu --> Source) I can see the addresses were actually
separated by commas and not semi-colons.

I would suggest simply asking the sender to not use semi-colons but
instead use commas.
