adjust cross reference layout

Stino

Hi,

I made a new caption 'Eq.' for equations and number my equations as
Eq. I.1
Eq. I.2
Eq. II.1
and so on, with I and II chapter numbers.
I put the captions manually between brackets so I get
[Eq. I.1]
[Eq. I.2]
[Eq. II.1]
everywhere.
Then comes the problem: when I want to refer to an equation with a cross
reference,
I get '[Eq. I.1' or '[Eq. I.1]', depending on whether I choose the whole
caption or only the name and number.

Can anyone explain me how I can get just 'Eq. I.1' in my cross reference,
without the preceding bracket?

thanks

G'day "Stino" <[email protected]>,

the problem lies with the way you inserted your brackets. I cannot for
the life of me understand how you use automatic numbering on your
captions and insert a bracket in front of it.

So you must be using manual numbering. In that case, do what I ALWAYS
ALWAYS ALWAYS do when making x-refs and set a bookmark over the text
you want to x-ref to and x-ref to that instead.

I'm not sure if I understand you, but I tried two things:
first I just created the caption name '[Eq.' and inserted that for every
equation (insert -> caption I guess it is in English).
In my second attempt, I created the name 'Eq.' and after inserting it I
manually typed a [ in front of it. However, any x-ref to it contained the
[ even though that was not part of caption name as I created it in the
caption dialogue box.

I already thought of using bookmarks before, but it seems like some work to
do it all again. Perhaps if I have some time to spare...

Thanks for the help,
