Adjust the spacing between a list bullet or number and the text

The default bullet list inserts a tab which aligns the first line text to
centre, The Word help says right click and optin will allow you to adjust the
position of the text, but this does not work. Right click does not give an
item "Adjust List Indents". Is there a work around to this bug?
